Addison Conducts Active Shooter Drill

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Hundreds of people took part in an active shooter drill Friday morning in west suburban Addison.

The drill took place at the Marcus Theaters Addison Cinema movie theater on Lake Street. Young people acting as theater goers streamed out of the building into the parking lot as police and firefighters responded to a scenario involving two masked gunmen.

Deputy Police Chief Joe Maranowicz said more than 30 police and fire departments in DuPage County participated, and three area hospitals handled 39 mock victims.

"As we go in, we're working with the fire department to extract injured people. Before, as you know, from the Columbine days, we waited for SWAT. Those days are gone. We have contact teams that go in. We go after the offender," he said.
