Abuse Victims' Advocate Outraged By Bears Signing Of Ray McDonald

(CBS) -- Bears owner George McCaskey got involved in a player personnel decision for only the third time.

It involved former San Francisco 49er defensive lineman Ray McDonald, who the Bears signed to a one-year deal.

He's not getting a warm welcome from everyone. CBS 2's Brad Edwards spoke with one abuse victim's advocate outraged by the signing.

"It's incomprehensible to me that not just the management of the team, but the ownership of the team thinks this is an okay thing to do," said Denice Wolf Markham, executive director of Life Span, an organization that supports victims of domestic violence

Last August, McDonald was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence, but no charges were filed after there was a lack of evidence.

Then in December, McDonald was accused of sexual assault in San Jose, Calif. No charges have been filed in a case that's still open, but the 49ers released McDonald amid the controversy, saying he had a habit of "poor decision-making."

McCaskey first initially shot down the potential of employing Ray McDonald after reading his file, but McDonald came and made his case.

"I have a 12-year-old grandson … he watches every single Bears game -- I don't want him to watch Mr. McDonald play," Wolf Markham said.

"I think we're on chance five … I think second chance is long gone."

McDonald's trouble may be not over, as published reports say his case is still under review by the NFL.
