A Wet Couple Days Ahead For Chicago; Snow A Possibility Far North

CHICAGO (CBS) -- With remnants of Hurricane Patricia slowly making their way through Illinois, light rain will be falling across the Chicago area for most of the next couple days.

Combined with temperatures dropping to near freezing in some outlying areas Wednesday night, there's an outside chance some far northern suburbs could get a few flurries before October ends.

Light rain began falling in the Chicago area Tuesday afternoon, and should continue for the next couple days.

The system is not packing as much moisture as it did when it was near the Gulf of Mexico, so most of the rain should be light, with a few occasional heavier showers. The heavier rain likely will be focused in northwest Indiana Tuesday night into early Wednesday.

While there could be a bit of a break from the rain midday Wednesday, more rain should filter through Wednesday evening, and far northern suburbs have the potential for flurries very early Thursday, as temperatures reach near or below freezing, although it's most likely they'll only see more rain.

Rain accumulations should range from ¾ to 1 ½ inches once the system clears out early Thursday.

Meantime, daytime temperatures Tuesday and Wednesday will reach the high 50s. Thursday and Friday will be noticeably cooler, with temperatures reaching only about 50 degrees each day, before a warming trend starting Saturday, with highs getting back to the mid 60s by Monday.
