A Time-Lapse View Of Demolition At 200 N. Michigan

CHICAGO (CBS) -- With the demolition of a drab, old concrete office building at 200 N. Michigan Avenue complete, foundation work can soon begin on a bKL-designed mixed use glass tower.

A video posted on YouTube (above) shows the three-month demolition process in just under four minutes.

And while the architects at bKL were mindful of creating a design that fit with Daniel Burnham's dark, emerald structure, the new residential tower is the first on the block to embrace the gleaming modern look of newer skyscrapers in the city.

While most of the building will be residential, the lower floors will be dedicated to retail space, a certain upgrade from the bag and luggage store on that corner that seemed to be going out of business for the past 10 years.
