9-Year-Old Boy Hit By Stray Bullet On Near West Side

(STMW) -- A 9-year-old boy was the unintended victim of a shooting on the Near West Side late Saturday morning, according to police.

The boy was walking with his father at 11:35 a.m. in the 2300 block of West Adams when a gunman opened fire on a passing black four-door car, police News Affairs Officer Thomas Sweeney said.

The boy was struck "inadvertently" in the lower right leg, Sweeney said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition, police said.

Police said the shooting likely is gang-related.
