8 Killed, 36 Wounded In Weekend Shootings Across Chicago

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Eight people were killed and at least 36 others have been wounded in shootings across the city since Friday evening.

The latest killing happened early Sunday in the West Elsdon neighborhood on the Southwest Side. Luis Villa, 36, was sitting in the driver's seat of a parked car about 12:30 a.m. in the 5600 block of South Kolmar when a silver vehicle pulled alongside and someone inside opened fire, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner's office. Villa was shot in the side of his torso and was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:42 a.m., authorities said. He lived on the same block where the shooting happened.

Less than an hour earlier, a man was fatally shot in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side. At 11:45 p.m., the 22-year-old was sitting in a parked car in the 700 block of West 45th Street when someone in a dark-colored vehicle pulled up and fired shots, hitting him in the chest, police said. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead. His name has not yet been released.

About 10 p.m. Saturday, a man was gunned down in the Longwood Manor neighborhood on the South Side. Adama Moye, 22, was sitting in a car parked in the first block of West 98th Street when a dark vehicle pulled alongside and someone inside fired shots, authorities said. Moye, of the 4900 block of South Dorchester, was shot in the chest and taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 10:41 p.m.

Earlier Saturday afternoon, a man was shot to death in the Far South Side Washington Heights neighborhood. The man, thought to be in his 20s, was shot in the face at 3:39 p.m. in the 10100 block of South Halsted. He was taken to Christ Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 4:07 p.m., according police and the examiner's office. His name has not yet been released.

About 1:45 a.m., officers responding to a call of a person shot at a gas station in the 8200 block of South State in the South Side Chatham neighborhood found a man in a vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds, authorities said. The man, thought to be in his 20s, was dead at the scene. His name has not yet been released.

Forty-five minutes earlier, 54-year-old Cynthia D. Richardson was found with a fatal gunshot wound to the neck on the lawn of a West Englewood neighborhood home in the 5900 block of South Winchester, authorities said. Richardson, who lived in the 2100 block of West 63rd Street, was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:30 a.m.

Late Friday, an 18-year-old man was slain about eight blocks away from the other Chatham neighborhood killing. Deon Virges ran into a store about 11 p.m. in the first block of East 75th Street, collapsed and died of a gunshot wound to neck, authorities said. Virges lived in the 7500 block of South Calumet.

The weekend's first homicide happened about 5 p.m. Friday in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side. Seneka Harrison was found unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the chest in an alley about 5 p.m. in the 4700 block of West Congress, authorities said. Harrison, of the 1800 block of South Homan, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:41 p.m.

The latest nonfatal shooting happened at 2:14 p.m. Sunday in the Roseland neighborhood on the Far South Side. A 20-year-old man was shot in the left leg and a 28-year-old man was shot in the left hip in the 11100 block of South Michigan, police said. Both were taken in good condition to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

At least 34 more people were shot in other attacks across Chicago between 5:45 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Sunday.

Additionally, a 25-year-old Indianapolis man, Joshua Beal, was shot and killed by Chicago Police Saturday afternoon in the Mount Greenwood neighborhood on the Far South Side.
