73-Year-Old Man Fatally Shot While Driving In North Austin

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 73-year-old man was shot to death while driving in the North Austin neighborhood early Friday on the West Side.

At 2:20 a.m., he was going through the 1300 block of North Laramie when someone opened fire and he was hit in the side, according to Chicago Police.

His vehicle crashed into two parked cars, and he died at the scene, authorities said. It wasn't clear if he was the intended target.

The Cook County medical examiner's office did not immediately have more information on the death. No one was in custody as Area North detectives opened a homicide investigation.
