Thousands Turn Out To Audition For Spike Lee Film "Chiraq"

(CBS) -- The controversial title didn't keep thousands of people from lining up for a part in Spike Lee's new movie.

Some 5,000 hopefuls wrapped around St. Sabina Academy Saturday to audition for "Chiraq."

Critics say the name paints the wrong picture of our city, but people at the auditions say the movie has the potential to expose real problems in some of Chicago's most violent neighborhoods.

"It's a great opportunity to film the truths as long as the movie stays away from lies and falsehoods, I think it is a great start for Chicago," said Lee Wilson.

One Chicago alderman wants to deny Lee $3 million in tax credits unless he changes the name of the film.
