3 Officers Hurt In Northwest Side Crash

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Three Chicago Police officers were hospitalized Thursday night after their squad car was involved in a two-vehicle crash in the Irving Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side.

The officers' unmarked squad car was traveling north in the 3800 block of North Pulaski Road about 11 p.m., when an SUV traveling south turned left in front of the police vehicle, causing the crash, said police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro.

Three male officers inside the squad car were taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Alfaro said.

The 33-year-old man driving the SUV was not injured, but was cited for not having insurance, negligent driving, failure to reduce speed and failure to yield the right of way during a left turn, Alfaro said.

Neither alcohol nor drugs played a role in the crash, Alfaro said.
