5-Year-Old Among Two Dead In Cicero Apartment Building Fire

CHICAGO (CBS)-- A deadly fire broke out in Cicero overnight.

CBS 2 has learned a 5-year-old boy and man in his 60s were the victims of the massive fire. According to officials, the victims were a grandfather and his grandson.

Officials said when firefighters forced their way onto the second floor, the 5-year-old boy was still alive. He was later pronounced dead on the scene.

The fire broke out at a two-story property around 1 a.m. near 12th Place and Cicero Avenue.

Flames spread to multiple buildings and several other suburban fire departments were helping knock out the heavy flames.

A firefighter was taken to MacNeal Hospital for treatment for minor injuries.

Officials said the 30-miles-per-hour winds played a role in the fire spreading.

This is a developing story.
