4-Year-Old Hurt In Porch Collapse Released From Hospital

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 4-year-old girl has been released from the hospital after being injured in a porch collapse Monday afternoon in the South Shore neighborhood.

The porch in the 1600 block of East 74th Place gave way about 5:50 p.m., Fire Media Affairs spokesman Joe Roccasalva said.

The girl was seriously injured in the collapse and taken to University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital, according to police and fire officials. An adult was also hurt but refused medical treatment at the scene.

Police said Tuesday morning the girl has been released from the hospital.

The city Department of Buildings went to inspect the home after the collapse, and the building management company took responsibility for the repairs, department spokeswoman Mimi Simon said.

The department will return Tuesday to complete another assessment of the building, Simon said. The home has no history of violations.
