4 Hurt In Pace Bus Crash Near Maywood Hospital

(STMW) -- A driver and three pedestrians were hurt Thursday afternoon when a car hit a Pace bus outside a west suburban hospital.

The incident happened about 3:45 p.m. outside Loyola University Medical Center when a red Nissan Sentra traveling southbound on 1st Avenue veered into the northbound lane and struck a Pace bus carrying five passengers, said Cook County Sheriff's Department spokesman Ben Breit.

After striking the Pace bus, the Nissan struck three pedestrians at a nearby crosswalk, Breit added. All three were taken to Loyola University Medical Center where two are listed in serious condition, Breit said.

The five passengers who were inside the Pace bus were not injured, but were taken to the same hospital as a precaution, officials said.

A 24-year-old man from southwest suburban Rockdale was said to be driving the Nissan, Breit said. He was also taken to the hospital, but his condition was not yet known.

Authorities had no word on charges or citations in the crash as of Thursday evening.

Sheriff's police are investigating.
