3 Dead, 10 Wounded In Chicago Shootings Monday

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Three men were killed and at least 10 other people were wounded in a 10-hour spate of gun violence Monday on the South and West sides.

About 11:25 p.m., a 41-year-old man was killed and a woman was injured in a drive-by shooting during a barbecue in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side, police said.

The pair were barbecuing about 11:25 p.m. outside in a vacant lot in the 6600 block of South Union when a black SUV drove by and someone inside opened fire, according to Chicago Police. Alfondia Kelly, 44, was shot in the armpit and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:15 a.m. Tuesday, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office. He lived on the same block where the shooting happened. The woman, 21, suffered a gunshot wound to the back and was also taken to Stroger, where her condition was stabilized, police said.

About two hours earlier, a man was shot to death in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the Southwest Side. The man, thought to be in his 30s, was shot in the back and buttocks at 9:22 p.m. in the 1600 block of South Kedzie, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name was not released Tuesday morning.

A 20-year-old man was killed and an 18-year-old man wounded in a shooting in the South Shore neighborhood. The shooting happened about 2:05 p.m. in the 7400 block of South South Shore Drive, police said. The 20-year-old was shot in the head, arm and abdomen and pronounced dead at the scene. His name was not released Tuesday morning. The younger man was shot in the armpit and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

The latest shooting happened at 11:38 p.m. in the Fuller Park neighborhood on the South Side.

An 18-year-old woman was shot in the leg in the 4400 block of South Princeton, police said. She was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where her condition was stabilized.

About 10:35 p.m., a 26-year-old man was shot in the hand in the 8800 block of South Burley in the South Chicago neighborhood, police said. He was listed in good condition at Advocate Trinity Hospital but was not cooperating with investigators.

About 10 p.m. on the West Side, a 23-year-old man was shot in the leg in Austin's 5600 block of West Madison, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in good condition and was being "very uncooperative" with investigators.

Earlier Monday evening, a 14-year-old boy was shot in a separate Austin attack. The teen was walking outside about 7:10 p.m. in the 5600 block of West West End when someone walking nearby opened fire, striking him in the right foot, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition stabilized.

At 5:48 p.m. in yet another Austin shooting, three men were wounded in a drive-by. They were standing outside in the 400 block of South Lotus when someone in a passing vehicle opened fire, police said. One man, 19, was shot in the back and was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition. Another man, 23, was shot in the buttocks and was listed in good condition at Mount Sinai. The third man, 18, took himself to Mount Sinai, but the extent of his injuries was not immediately known.

Monday afternoon, a 59-year-old man was critically wounded in a drive-by shooting in the Roseland neighborhood on the Far South Side. He was in the 11400 block of South Stewart about 2:40 p.m. when a vehicle approached and someone inside fired shots. He was shot in the back and taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition, police said. His condition had stabilized as of Tuesday morning.

The violence followed a weekend that saw eight people killed and 47 wounded in shootings across the city.
