35 CPS High School Students Awarded Scholarships From Gates Foundation

(CBS) -- Chicago Public Schools lead the nation in number of Gates Millennium Scholarships from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation this year, reports WBBM's Mike Krauser.

35 students from 22 high schools were awarded the scholarships, valued at up to $250,000.

The three Urban Prep academies have a total of seven winners, and Lindblom Math and Science Academy had five.

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation awards 1,000 of the scholarships each year. Since 2000, it has awarded more than $934 million in scholarships for minority students.
