Man, 4-year-old boy hurt in shooting in Woodlawn

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 4-year-old boy and an adult man were shot and wounded in Woodlawn just west of Jackson Park Thursday afternoon.

The shooting happened at 1:52 p.m. near 65th Street and Blackstone Avenue.

As CBS 2's Marissa Perlman reported, at least 11 shell casings had been placed at the scene behind crime scene tape by 6 p.m. A gray car within the crime scene was plastered with bullet holes.

The 22-year-old man and the boy were in a vehicle when another car pulled up – and someone inside shot them both, police said.

The child was shot multiple times in the groin, police said. Chicago Police officers pulled the boy out of the car and took him to the University of Chicago's Comer Children's Hospital.

The boy was reported to be in serious condition, but stabilized.

The man was shot in the chest was in serious condition, police said. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center.

We spoke to a neighbor off camera who heard multiple gunshots, and ran to his window to see four people jump out of the gray sedan – including two children.

The neighbor said a woman was running while holding the toddler who was wounded, and another older child was running behind her. The witness also said he saw a royal blue car speeding down 65th Street.

As police looked to find out what motivated the shooting, they said there were no suspects in custody.
