3 Arrested After Robbery On Blue Line Train

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Three suspects were in custody Tuesday morning, after at least one robbery on the CTA Blue Line on the Near West Side.

Police said a 23-year-old man was sitting on a Blue Line train at the Illinois Medical District station at 400 S. Damen Av., when three men approached him and announced a robbery. One of them implied he had a gun.

One of the other men struck the victim, and the third took his belongings, and all three suspects fled on foot.

After a brief foot chase, all three men were arrested.

The victim suffered a cut over his left eye, but refused medical attention at the scene.

Charges were pending against the three men in custody Tuesday morning.

CBS 2's Brad Edwards confirmed the same group potentially committed several robberies on the Blue Line, prompting the CTA to briefly halt service around 5 a.m. after the 23-year-old man was robbed.

The University of Illinois at Chicago confirmed campus police assisted the Chicago Police Department in apprehending three suspects in "one or more of the robberies."
