2 suspects in stolen semi-tractor trailer on the run, last seen in South Barrington

Police in west Chicago suburbs search for two suspects in stolen semi theft

ELMHURST, Ill. (CBS) -- Two men were on the run Tuesday afternoon, after a police pursuit overnight connected to a stolen semi-truck tractor in the western suburbs.

The truck tractor was stolen overnight in Elmhurst, police there said. Elmhurst police did not provide many details, but did say they are "still investigating and pursuing charges," and continue to search for the men still on the run following an attempted arrest in connection with the semi tractor theft.

Elmhurst police were investigating the theft of the semi when officers stopped the stolen truck and a car involved in the theft. Illinois State Police helped with the arrest- but said three men ran, and only one was taken into custody.

Police said one of the two suspects was last seen near Covered Bridge Road and Barrington Road in South Barrington - the other here at Liberty Drive and Bartlett Road in the same municipality.

South Barrington and Elmhurst are about 22 miles apart.

Elmhurst police are not saying of the suspected thieves are believed to be involved in any other crimes.

One suspect wore a tan or light-colored sweatshirt and light pants; the other was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt.

From where was the truck taken? Has it been returned? What was inside? Those are just a few of the questions that remained unanswered with Illinois State Police deferring to Elmhurst Police, who were not made available for interviews Tuesday.

Police asking anyone with information, or anyone who sees something suspicious, to give them a call.
