2 Killed, 9 Wounded In Wednesday Shootings Across Chicago

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Two people were killed and nine others were wounded in shootings across Chicago Wednesday, according to Chicago Police.

A 57-year-old woman was killed and a 58-year-old man wounded when they were caught in the crossfire of a gang-related shooting in the Uptown neighborhood Wednesday afternoon on the North Side, police said.

About 3:15 p.m., the two victims were on a sidewalk in the 4500 block of North Sheridan when someone in a passing vehicle opened fire, according to police. They were taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where the woman died of a gunshot wound to the torso. The Cook County medical examiner's office did not immediately confirm the death.

The man was shot in the leg and was listed in good condition, police said.

A police source said the pair were outside when two sets of rival gang members opened fire at each other. They were not thought to be the intended targets.

A resident said gang members constantly sell and stash drugs on the block where the shooting happened.

About an hour earlier, a man was shot to death in an apparent road rage attack in Avalon Park on the South Side.

The man was driving in the 8400 block of South Stony Island about 2:15 p.m. when he heard gunfire and realized he'd been hit in the upper torso, police said.

He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he later died, police said. The Cook County medical examiner's office did not immediately confirm the death.

Police called it a "possible road rage incident" but did not have more details on the circumstances of the shooting.

The most recent nonfatal shooting happened late Wednesday in the North Lawndale neighborhood.

About 11:35 p.m., a 37-year-old woman got into an argument with two males in the 1300 block of South Independence before one of them pulled out a gun and shot her, according to police. She suffered a graze wound to the right foot and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.

Less than an hour earlier, a man was shot and critically wounded in the South Side Grand Boulevard neighborhood. The 24-year-old was sitting in a parked car about 11 p.m. in the 4700 block of South Michigan when someone in a black pickup shot him in the back, police said. He took himself to Provident Hospital and was later transferred to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.

Several hours before that, a man was shot in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side. The 29-year-old was outside about 7:15 p.m. in the 1200 block of West 72nd Place when he heard gunshots and realized he'd been hit in the lower left leg, according to police. He was taken to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition.

Earlier Wednesday afternoon, another man was shot in West Englewood. The 22-year-old was shot in the 6200 block of South Honore at 2:25 p.m., police said. He was taken to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition with a gunshot wound to the left buttock.

More than three hours before that, a 15-year-old boy was shot in West Englewood. He was standing on the sidewalk in the 1500 block of West 72nd at 11:13 a.m. when he noticed a group of males standing on the corner and one of them opened fire, according to police. He was shot in both buttocks and taken to Comer Children's Hospital in good condition.

Approximately 11 hours earlier, a man was shot in the Avalon Park neighborhood on the South Side. The 36-year-old was walking on the sidewalk at 12:18 a.m. in the 1100 block of East 82nd Street when a male walked up and opened fire, police said. The man was shot in the left arm, left leg and abdomen and was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition was stabilized.

Another man was shot at the same time during a robbery in the Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side. The 51-year-old was walking on the sidewalk in the 5200 block of West Polk at 12:18 a.m. when two armed males approached him and announced a robbery, according to police. They stole the man's property and opened fire as they were leaving the scene. He was shot in the left leg and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

Wednesday's first shooting happened a minute earlier in the South Chicago neighborhood. A 48-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk at 12:17 a.m. in the 8900 block of South Commercial when someone in a nearby silver car fired shots, police said. He was shot in the lower left leg and taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
