2 Killed, 11 Wounded In Thursday Shootings Across Chicago

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Two people were killed and at least 11 more wounded in Thursday gun violence on Chicago's South and West sides.

The Dec. 1 attacks continued a bloody trend from November, a month that tallied 389 shooting victims and 77 homicides.

The latest killing happened about 7:30 p.m., when officers found a 48-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds in a Chatham neighborhood parking lot in the 7800 block of South Cottage Grove. He died at Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn an hour later, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

The other slaying happened about 1:15 a.m. in East Garfield Park, where officers found a 19-year-old man shot in the head and chest in the 300 block of South Whipple. He died at the scene, authorities said.

The victims' names were withheld Thursday night pending notification of their families.

Most recently, shooters in a Gold Saturn opened fire on a 39-year-old woman driving south in Lawndale's 1100 block of South Independence at 11:35 p.m., hitting her in the leg. She was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where her condition was stabilized, police said.

Five minutes before that and just over a mile away, a 19-year-old woman and 20-year-old man were shot inside a minivan at a Homan Square neighborhood stop light in the 600 block of South Homan. She was hit in the arm and back, and stabilized at Stroger Hospital, police said. He was listed in good condition at Mount Sinai.

About 10:30 p.m., a 19-year-old man was shot in the right leg while walking on a sidewalk in the 3700 block of South Wells, just south of Guaranteed Rate Field, police said. He was taken to Mercy Hospital in good condition.

At 7:31 p.m., a 21-year-old man heard gunfire in the alley of the 5400 block of South Loomis in the Back of the Yards neighborhood and realized he'd been hit in the hip. He was stabilized at Mount Sinai, police said.

About the same time, someone in a dark-colored car shot a 35-year-old man in the foot while he rode a bicycle in Lawndale's 2900 block of West Flournoy, police said. He was stabilized at Mount Sinai.

The fourth shooting within the hour happened about 7:15 p.m. in the Jeffery Manor neighborhood. A 28-year-old man was driving in the 2400 block of East 99th Street when another car pulled up and someone inside shot him in the arm. He kept driving to Trinity Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

At 4:50 p.m., a red vehicle pulled up to a 17-year-old boy in the 11600 block of South Lowe in West Pullman and opened fire, grazing his hand and leg, police said. He was taken to Roseland Community Hospital in good condition.

Just before 3 p.m. in East Garfield Park, someone in a passing vehicle shot an 18-year-old man in both legs while he was outside in the 3200 block of West Washington. He was stabilized at Stroger, police said.

A Marquette Park neighborhood shooting left a 19-year-old man in "grave" condition about 2 p.m. in the 6300 block of South Kedzie, where someone walked up and shot him in the head, chest and shoulder, police said. He was being treated at Christ Medical Center.

Thursday's first nonfatal attack happened shortly before 6 a.m. in Gresham, where someone robbed a 22-year-old man and then shot him in the lower body in the 7700 block of South Green, police said. He was listed in serious condition at Christ.

Eight people were shot in the city on Wednesday, two fatally.
