2 Girls Shot Overnight In West Pullman

CHICAGO (CBS)--Two girls were shot in the West Pullman neighborhood Sunday night, police said.

The girls, 11 and 17, were shot as they stood outside the 1700 block of South Perry Avenue around 10:30 p.m., police said.

The 11-year-old was shot in the chest. She was taken to Stroger Hospital, where she was in serious condition, police said. The older girl was shot in the right hand and elbow and was taken to Roseland Hospital.

Latricia Hunter lives near where 2 girls were shot on Sunday, Sept. 2, 2018.

She was then transferred to Stroger Hospital where her condition was stabilized, police said. A woman at the scene of the shooting could be heard screaming "My baby got shot."

Latricia Hunter lives in the neighborhood and said her young daughter is an acquaintance of the 11-year-old victim.

"I'm sad about the shooting that happened--that's another child--we don't know how the outcome is going to be, but she won't be able to start school tomorrow," Hunter said. "Bullets do not have names--I'm trying to explain to them if someone is shooting at someone it don't have to be aiming towards you. It could ricochet off of something and hit you. You just got to be careful."
