2 Dead In South Side Murder-Suicide

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 35-year-old man fatally stabbed a 28-year-old woman before jumping to his death Friday evening in the Prairie Shores neighborhood on the South Side, authorities said.

About 7 p.m., the man confronted Julia Martin when she returned to her home in the 3000 block of South King Drive, and he stabbed her repeatedly, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner's office. He then jumped from a window of the building.

They were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:18 p.m. and Martin at 7:37 p.m., authorities said. His name has not been released, pending notification of his family.

Autopsies Saturday ruled Martin's death a homicide and the man's a suicide. Police called the case a domestic murder-suicide.
