2 Dead, 8 Wounded In Shootings Since Thursday Afternoon

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Two men were killed and at least eight other people were wounded in shootings across the city from Thursday afternoon to early Friday.

Shortly before 6:30 p.m., a 23-year-old man was killed in a drive-by shooting in the South Side Auburn-Gresham neighborhood. He was in the 900 block of West 83rd Street when a van drove by and multiple males inside fired at him, police said. The van then drove away.

About three and a half hours earlier, a 19-year-old man was killed and two others were wounded in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side.

The three were in a vehicle in the 1600 block of South St. Louis Avenue at 3:07 p.m. when three male shooters fired in their direction, police said.

Demario Collins, 19, was shot in the head, arm and shoulder, and later died at Mount Sinai Hospital, authorities said.

The two others, also taken to Mount Sinai, were in good condition. A 19-year-old woman was shot in the buttocks, and a 21-year-old man had a gunshot wound to the hand.

The most recent non-fatal shooting occurred about 1:30 a.m. Friday in West Pullman on the Far South Side.

Two men, ages 25 and 29, were shot near the corner of West 116th Place and South Peoria Street, police said.

The 25-year-old was shot in the mouth and leg, and was taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Greer said. The 29-year-old suffered a graze wound to the shoulder and refused medical attention at the scene.

About 10:20 p.m. Thursday, a 16-year-old boy was shot in the Grand Boulevard neighborhood on the South Side. The boy was shot in the leg in the 4200 block of South Wabash Avenue, police said. He was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in "stable" condition.

Earlier Thursday evening, a 26-year-old woman was shot in the Roseland neighborhood on the South Side. The woman was in the 200 block of West 95th Street at 7:04 p.m. when she was shot in the hand, police said. She was taken to Roseland Community Hospital in good condition.

About half an hour earlier, a man was shot in the leg in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood. The 21-year-old man was shot in the leg at 6:37 p.m. in the 1900 block of West 87th Street, police said. He transported himself to Christ Medical Center, but his condition was not immediately known.

Earlier Thursday afternoon, a man was shot in the foot near a school in the South Side Englewood neighborhood. The 20-year-old was shot at 3:53 p.m. in the 400 block of West Normal Parkway, police said. He was taken to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Centers in good condition.

Paul Robeson High School is located nearby at 6835 S. Normal Ave., according to Chicago Public Schools. However, the shooting did not happen on school grounds, police said.

No one is in custody for any of the shootings as area detectives investigate.
