2 Dead, 1 Injured After Car Flips Over, Strikes Light Pole On Dan Ryan Expressway Near 63rd Street

CHICAGO (CBS)-- Two people died and another was seriously injured in a crash on the Dan Ryan Expressway late Tuesday night.

Illinois State Police said, just before 11 p.m., a 35-year-old man from Chicago Heights was driving a black 2018 Chrysler in the southbound lanes of the Dan Ryan near 63rd Street when he lost control of the car.

The Chrysler hit a sign pole, flipped over, and came to a stop on top of the concrete median barrier.

The driver and a 17-year-old passenger in the car were killed in the crash. A 16-year-old passenger was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, police said.

The southbound express lanes of the Dan Ryan were closed for approximately six hours after the crash.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
