Woman Killed, Man Critically Injured In Far South Side Crash

(STMW) -- A woman was killed and a man was critically injured when a car struck a light pole early Saturday in the Altgeld Gardens neighborhood on the Far South Side.

About 3:40 a.m., the Saturn was traveling westbound in the 11500 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue when it struck the pole, police said.

The driver, a 22-year-old man, and his passenger, 32-year-old Lasandra Claybrooks, were both taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Claybrooks, of the 0 – 100 block of East 124th Street, was pronounced dead at 4:02 p.m., the medical examiner's office said.

The police Major Accidents Investigation Unit is investigating the crash.
