1 killed, three seriously hurt including two children in 2-car crash in Elmhurst
ELMHURST, Ill. (CBS) -- Police are investigating a crash that left one woman dead, and three others hurt, including two children, in Elmhurst Wednesday morning.
The Elmhurst Police and Fire Departments responded to a 911 call of a severe traffic crash around 5:08 a.m. on St. Charles Road near Hill Avenue.
Upon arrival, police and fire crews located a Chevrolet SUV and an Audi SUV on St. Charles Road - both with significant front-end damage.
The Audi was occupied by a woman who was the vehicle's sole occupant. She was taken to Elmhurst Hospital by paramedics with serious injuries.
The Chevrolet was occupied by a woman, a 4-year-old boy, and a 2-year-old girl. The woman was extricated from the vehicle by firefighters and was pronounced dead.
The identity of the woman was not released.
The children were taken to Loyola University Medical Center by paramedics with serious injuries.
The DuPage County Coroner's Office and DuPage MERIT Major Crash Investigation Team responded to the scene to assist the investigation. The roadway was closed until 11:30 a.m.
Initial reports say the Chevrolet was traveling eastbound on St. Charles Road when it drifted over the center line and collided with the westbound traveling Audi.
