Autopsy: Man Killed By Chicago Police Was Shot In The Back

(CBS) -- The 19-year-old Dolton man killed by Chicago police earlier this week in a West Englewood foot chase was fatally shot in the back, the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office said Friday.

Kajuan Raye died at a hospital after a Chicago police sergeant shot him late Wednesday. Chicago police say the sergeant, who responded to a call of a disturbance in the 1400 block of West 65th, chased Raye and said the suspect twice pointed a "weapon" at him.

A weapon was not recovered after an extensive "grid" search of the area, Chicago Police Supt. Eddie Johnson told reporters Thursday.

Raye's family and some community activists say Raye was not doing anything wrong and didn't have a weapon, such as a gun, on him. A cousin said Raye bolted when police arrived at a bus stop he was at because, as a young black man, he was afraid of officers.

Family members held a vigil for Raye Friday.

An investigation continues.

Chicago police were involved in another fatal officer-involved shooting early Friday.
