17-Year-Old Girl Injured In Fall At Raceway Woods Forest Preserve Near Carpentersville

(CBS) -- Doctors have stabilized a 17-year-old girl who fell 25 feet in Kane County's Raceway Woods Forest Preserve, near Carpentersvillle.

The girl was atop a metal walk bridge at about 3:45 p.m. Tuesday when she slipped and fell at Raceway Woods, the former Meadowdale Race Track property. Friends immediately summoned help and Carpentersville Fire Department Battalion Chief Bob Beattie says it was a challenge getting her out by stretcher on the foot path.

Beattie said firefighters decided to exit through a nearby subdivision, where a Medevac helicopter transported her to Condell Memorial Hospital, in Libertyville.

The good news, Beattie said, is that she was awake, alert and able to move when brought out. Beattie said her injuries are not life-threatening.
