15 women arrested after sit-in outside ICE facility in Broadview

The Cook County Sheriff's Office said 15 people were arrested on Friday outside the Broadview ICE facility, after a coalition of suburban moms staged a protest outside.

Sheriff's officials said the 15 women arrested in connection with the protests all were facing charges of disorderly conduct and obstruction Their ages ranged from 23 to 59.

The protesters held a sit-in in the street outside the facility and outside of a designated protest area. The moms sat in a circle and held hands, chanting in peaceful protest. Sheriff's police moved in quickly, helping each of them to their feet before arresting them.

The group Resist and Repeat took credit for the sit-in on Instagram. The group said it's comprised of "suburban moms and women channeling alarm into action to protest what's happening in our communities and here at Broadview."

Father Michael Pfleger joined protesters outside the Broadview facility on Friday afternoon. They said it was their first "Faith Over Fear" Friday, calling for justice and praying for the people detained at the ICE processing facility.

"We are demanding that we have the opportunity to provide pastoral and spiritual care to those who are detained," said Rev. Ciera Bates.
