1 Killed, 7 Wounded In Wednesday Shootings

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man was killed and at least seven other people were wounded in shootings across Chicago Wednesday, authorities said.

A 50-year-old man was killed and a 38-year-old man was injured in a shooting in the North Lawndale neighborhood Wednesday night. About 9:50 p.m., the two men were standing on the sidewalk in the 3600 block of West 16th Street when two males walked up and opened fire, police said.

The older man was shot in the chest, leg and arm and was pronounced dead shortly after the shooting, police said. The other man was shot in the right leg and took himself to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition had stabilized.

The Cook County medical examiner's office could not immediately confirm the fatality.

The most recent nonfatal shooting occurred about an hour earlier when a 17-year-old boy and two men were shot in the Roseland neighborhood on the Far South Side.

About 8:55 p.m., the three were standing outside in the 0-100 block of East 100th Place when a dark-colored vehicle drove by and someone inside opened fire, police said.

One man, 21, was shot in the back and taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. The teen was shot in the left ankle while the other man, also 21, was shot in the right leg and right arm, police said. They were both taken to Roseland Community Hospital. Police said the conditions of all three had stabilized.

A man was shot in the West Garfield Park neighborhood Wednesday afternoon.

About 3:45 p.m., the 19-year-old was walking in the 4100 block of West Maypole Avenue when he heard gunshots and felt pain, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in fair condition.

Earlier Wednesday morning, a 20-year-old man was shot on a Brainerd neighborhood porch.

He was standing on the porch of a home in the 9200 block of South Justine STreet about 3:30 a.m. when a vehicle pulled up and someone inside opened fire, police said. He was struck in the forearm and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in good condition.

About two hours earlier, a 32-year-old man was hurt in a shooting in South Austin.

He was driving in the 4700 block of West Van Buren Street about 1:30 a.m. when someone passing in a silver car fired a bullet that grazed his head, police said. He took himself to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in good condition.
