1 Killed, 7 Wounded In Thursday Shootings

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man was killed and at least seven others were wounded in shootings on the South and West sides of Chicago Thursday, police said.

The fatal shooting occurred in the Austin neighborhood.

Two men, both 36, were playing a dice game about 8:30 p.m. in the 5800 block of West Chicago Avenue when at least two other people walked up, announced a robbery and started shooting, according to Chicago Police.

Someone drove the men to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, where one of the men died of a gunshot wound to the chest, police said. The other man was shot in the chest and arm, and his condition was stabilized.

The Cook County medical examiner's office did not immediately confirm the fatality.

The most recent shooting occurred about 11:35 p.m. in the South Shore neighborhood.

A 32-year-old man was standing outside in the 7100 block of South South Shore Drive when someone in a passing white sedan shot him in the arm, police said.

He was taken to Jackson Park Hospital and Medical Center, where his condition had stabilized, police said.

About 11:30 p.m., a 26-year-old man was walking in the 4000 block of West Monroe Street when he heard shots ring out and felt pain, police said. The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital with several gunshot wounds to his leg. His condition had stabilized.

Late Thursday evening, an 18-year-old man was shot in the leg in Roseland.

He was in the 300 block of West 109th Street at 6:43 p.m. when someone walked up and opened fire, police said. He was to Roseland Community Hospital in good condition after the shooting, which police said likely was gang-related.

Late Thursday afternoon, a 34-year-old man was wounded in a drive-by shooting in the Heart of Chicago neighborhood.

He was walking in the 2200 block of South Wood Street at 4:18 p.m. when someone inside a passing SUV fired shots, police said. The man, a documented gang member, was shot in the leg and taken to a hospital where his condition stabilized, police said.

The day's first two shootings happened within minutes of each other in separate Austin neighborhood attacks.

About 1:30 p.m., a 20-year-old man was shot in the arm in the 5100 block of West Division Street, police said. He was taken in good condition to Mount Sinai Hospital.

At 1:18 p.m., another 20-year-old man was standing outside in the 4800 block of West Iowa Street when he heard shots and felt pain, police said. A bullet grazed his head and he was taken to Mount Sinai, where he was listed in good condition. He has documented gang ties, police said.
