2 Killed, 7 Wounded In Shootings Since Friday Evening

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Two men were killed and at least seven more were wounded in shootings across Chicago since Friday evening, police said.

Most recently, a man was shot to death Saturday morning in the Little Village neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

The 20-year-old was standing on the sidewalk about 10:15 a.m. in the 3100 block of West 24th when a vehicle pulled up and someone inside fired at him, according to Chicago Police. The vehicle then drove away. The man was shot in the chest, abdomen, back and arm and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:41 a.m. The Cook County medical examiner's office could not immediately confirm the death Saturday morning.

Another man was killed in a shooting about 1:40 a.m. Saturday in the West Garfield Park neighborhood. Officers found the 37-year-old man lying in an alley in the 4200 block of West Wilcox with multiple gunshot wounds to the head, according to police and the medical examiner's office. He was pronounced dead at 2:02 a.m. His name has not been released.

The latest nonfatal shooting happened about 3 a.m. Saturday in Lake View, where two men were shot a block away from the Belmont CTA Red Line station. They were standing near a car parked at the corner of Belmont and Kenmore when someone walked up and opened fire, hitting a 23-year-old multiple times and a 36-year-old in the neck, police said. They were taken in critical condition to Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

About 1:45 a.m., a 30-year-old man heard gunfire and realized a bullet grazed his arm in the first block of West 110th Place in Roseland on the Far South Side, according to police. He declined treatment and was uncooperative with police, who think the shooting was gang related.

At 12:30 a.m., a 25-year-old man was shot in the leg in the 2200 block of West Walnut in West Town. He showed up at Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

Five minutes before that, a 28-year-old man was shot in the knee in the Buena Park neighborhood on the North Side. He was outside in the 800 block of West Cuyler when someone got out of a vehicle on the block, opened fire and then drove away, according to police. He was taken to Illinois Masonic, where his condition was stabilized.

Friday evening, a 23-year-old man was robbed and shot in the South Austin neighborhood on the West Side. Someone walked up to his car while he was driving about 7 p.m. in the 5000 block of West Monroe and demanded his things before shooting him in the abdomen, police said. The driver was taken to Mount Sinai and his condition was stabilized.

The weekend's first shooting happened just before 6 p.m. in the South Side Woodlawn neighborhood. A 35-year-old man was standing outside a home in the 6100 block of South Evans when someone walked up and opened fire, hitting him in the leg, police said. His condition was stabilized at the University of Chicago Medical Center.
