Young Mother Killed, Two Men Wounded In Roseland Shooting

(CBS) -- A young mother was shot and killed and two men wounded as they got out of a car Saturday night in the Roseland neighborhood.

CBS 2's Sandra Torres reports the victim, 23-year-old Tiara Banks, is a recent college graduate and the mother of a three-year-old boy. Her father says she was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The shooting happened around 9 p.m. near West 114th Street and South Stewart Avenue. Parks and two men were getting out of a car when someone began shooting. A 24-year-old man was shot in the lower back and a 27-year-old man was shot in the left leg. Parks was shot in the head and died at a nearby hospital.

Her father, Michael Parks, is understandably distraught and can't believe his daughter was the victim of a shooting, considering his day to day job as a Cook County sheriff's officer is to fight violence.

"I risk my life every day for every single citizen in this city, in this county and my daughter's life was snatched away from me, my family," he said.

The motive of the shooting isn't clear yet and police don't have anyone in custody.
