1 Killed, 2 Injured In Kennedy Expressway Crash

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A person was killed and two others were seriously injured in a crash involving a semi-truck on the Kennedy Expressway near the Loop early Wednesday, shutting down most of the inbound side of the expressway for four hours.

The crash happened between the truck and a car at 1:57 a.m. near the Hubbard Street Cave, Illinois State Police said, who had no additional information early Wednesday morning.

One person was dead at the scene, according to Chicago Fire Media Affairs. The Cook County medical examiner's office could not immediately confirm the fatality.

Two people were taken in serious condition from the scene, one to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and the other to Stroger Hospital, fire officials said. The victims' ages and genders weren't immediately available.

Footage from the scene showed the roof of the car fully collapsed.

Traffic was being let through on the far left lane of the Kennedy near the scene before all lanes were reopened at 6 a.m. police said.
