CHICAGO (STMW) -- One person was killed and another wounded in a Washington Heights neighborhood shooting late Wednesday on the South Side.

About 11 p.m., the 18-year-old man and 16-year-old boy were on a sidewalk in the 9700 block of South Peoria Street when someone opened fire from an SUV, according to Chicago Police.

The 18-year-old was shot in the chest and abdomen and pronounced dead at the scene, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office. His name was withheld early Thursday pending notification of his family.

The younger boy was shot in the leg and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Oak Lawn, where his condition stabilized, police said.
