1 Killed, 1 Wounded In Aurora Shooting

AURORA, Ill. (STMW) -- One man was killed and another wounded in a shooting in west suburban Aurora Wednesday night.

Joseph B. Trejo, 18, was sitting with his 31-year-old cousin on the front porch of a home in the 200 block of North Smith Street about 7:10 p.m. when a person exited a cream-colored, 4-door sedan and opened fire, according to Aurora police.

The shooter ran southbound on Smith then westbound on Claim Street after the shooting, police said.

He was described as a Hispanic male 16-20 years, thin with a light complexion, wearing a light-colored hooded sweatshirt and cream-colored khaki pants.

The vehicle headed southbound on Smith at "a high rate of speed" after the shooting, police said.

Trejo, of the 400 block of Bangs Street in Aurora, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at 7:43 p.m. at a hospital, police said. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday at the Kane County Coroner's office.

The cousin suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, police said.

Police said the shooting does not appear to be random and a gang-related motive has not been ruled out.

Anyone with information should call police at (630) 256-5500. Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the shooter.
