1 Hurt, 4 Displaced By Chatham Fire

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A house fire injured one person and displaced four others early Wednesday in the South Side Chatham neighborhood.

Firefighters responded to the blaze about 12:30 a.m. inside a one-story bungalow in the 8300 block of South Maryland Avenue, said Fire Media Affairs spokesman Juan Hernandez. The fire was struck out about a half hour later.

A 53-year-old woman was injured and taken to Jackson Park Hospital and Medical Center, but her condition was not immediately known, Hernandez said.

The house was fully involved with the fire, and four people were displaced, Hernandez said. The city's Department of Human Services was called to the scene to assist residents with housing.

Fire officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
