1 Dead, 11 Wounded In Weekend Shootings
(STMW) --A man was killed and at least 11 other people have been wounded in shootings across Chicago so far this weekend.
The homicide happened during a Friday night fight in the Grand Boulevard neighborhood on the South Side.
Wavey Brown, 44, was arguing with another male in an alley in the 5000 block of South Calumet Avenue at 9:30 p.m. when the male pulled out a gun and fired shots, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Brown, who lived in the 300 block of Washington Street in Waukegan, suffered a gunshot wound to the back and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:18 p.m., authorities said.
The latest nonfatal shooting happened early Sunday in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.
A 21-year-old man was getting into a vehicle about 3:20 a.m. in the 3300 block of West Van Buren when someone opened fire from a passing tan car, striking him in the left thigh. A friend drove him to Rush University Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized, police said.
About 20 minutes earlier, a 26-year-old man was shot in the arm while walking in the 100 block of East 11th Street in the South Loop. His condition was stabilized at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, police said.
At 10:35 p.m., two people were wounded in a Lawndale neighborhood drive-by attack on the Southwest Side. The 17-year-old boy and 20-year-old man were standing on the front porch of a home in the 1600 block of South St. Louis when a red SUV drove by and someone inside opened fire, police said. Both were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital. The man was in serious condition with gunshot wounds to the buttocks and leg, and the teen's condition was stabilized with a leg wound, police said.
About the same time, another 17-year-old boy was shot in West Garfield Park's 3900 block of West Van Buren. He was on a sidewalk in the 3900 block of West Van Buren when he heard gunshots and realized he'd been struck in the chest and left arm. His family members drove him to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.
Shortly after 10 p.m., a 35-year-old man was shot in the hand in Fernwood on the Far South Side. He was walking in the 10000 block of South State Street when two gunmen walked up and opened fire. His condition was stabilized at Roseland Community Hospital, police said.
At least five others have been wounded separate shootings since 4 p.m. Friday.
