1 Dead, 1 Wounded In Blue Island Nightclub Shooting

CHICAGO (CBS) -- One person was killed and another was wounded overnight, when gunfire erupted at a nightclub in southwest suburban Blue Island.

The shooting happened around 2 a.m. in the parking lot outside Premium 127 Nightclub, at 1859 W. 127th St.

Witnesses said there were so many shots, at first they weren't sure if the gunfire was coming from inside or outside the club.

A DJ at the club said about 200 people were inside when a fight broke out, and spilled into the parking lot. Minutes later, two people were shot.

"It was guys flipping girls, and girls smacking guys, and a whole bunch of everything going on, whatever you could imagine. It was Wrestlemania 2016 going on," DJ Chip said, estimating at least 10 people were involved in the brawl.

Booker Culps, whose nephew owns the club, said a man who was thrown out of the club after the fight came back with a gun and started shooting.

"It just don't have enough security for the rowdy people looking for trouble," Culps said.

Dozens of police officers responded, collecting evidence, with the main focus on the parking lot where officers marked dozens of bullet casings.

"Whoever they were shooting at ran back in the club to get away from the gunfire. That's basically what happened," DJ Chip said. "Then it followed everybody that was running towards that door."

Two people were shot. Michael Goldsmith, 27, died at MetroSouth Medical Center in Blue Island. A second man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious to critical condition.

Several cars in the parking lot also were damaged by gunfire.

"I could have got shot tonight. You know, my car did get shot tonight," DJ Chip said. "It's always a close call. This happens, as long as they keep on thinking it's cool to glorify this music and live this lifestyle."

As of late Monday morning, no one was in custody.
