1 Dead, 1 Injured In Snowmobiling Accident

CHICAGO (CBS) -- One Illinois man died, and another was injured Sunday night in a snowmobiling accident in Wisconsin.

The two men in their 50s were riding snowmobiles on the frozen surface of Geneva Lake around 9 p.m. when they saw they were about to go off the ice and into open water.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources said one man managed to avoid going into the water, but the other couldn't. His body later was pulled from the icy water.

The other man was rescued from the ice after jumping off his snowmobile. He was taken to the hospital to be treated for hypothermia.

The man who died was identified as Mark Reninger, 53, of Wheeling.

The man who survived was from Long Grove.

Last weekend, 15 unoccupied vehicles fell through thin ice on the ice of Geneva Lake when the frozen surface gave way.
