1 Dead, 1 Hurt In South Side Crash

CHICAGO (STMW) -- One person was killed and another was hurt in a crash in the South Chicago neighborhood early Tuesday.

A car with two people inside crashed into a tree about 4:30 a.m. in the 8200 block of South Yates Boulevard, police News Affairs Officer Janel Sedevic said.

The driver, a 27-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. Police said the man was 25. His name was not released Tuesday morning.

The passenger, a 19-year-old man, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he is in "stable" condition, Sedevic said.

The police Major Accidents Investigation Unit is investigating.
