Yoan Moncada Set To Make Minor League Debut On Monday Night

BOSTON (CBS) -- The Boston Red Sox will get their first look at Yoan Moncada in game action on Monday night.

The 19-year-old Cuban is expected to make his minor league debut, suiting up for Boston's Class A affiliate Greenville Drive of the South Atlantic League, on Monday night.

The second baseman has spent the last month in extended spring training in Fort Myers, Florida, acclimating himself to the American game.

The Red Sox officially announced the signing of Moncada back on March 12. Boston invested $63 million in the Cuban phenom, giving him a $31.5 signing bonus and the additional $31.5 to Major League Baseball as an overage tax for exceeding the team's allotment for international signing bonus money.

The Red Sox have said they will not rush Moncada, known as a switch-hitter with power, to the majors.
