Xander Bogaerts Hit Streak At 26 Games After Long Two-Run Single [VIDEO]

By Matt Dolloff, CBS Boston

BOSTON (CBS) -- This Xander Bogaerts kid, he's pretty good.

The Red Sox shortstop extended his league-leading hit streak to 26 games in Thursday night's loss to the Baltimore Orioles with a long two-run single that almost left Camden Yards for a home run. Check out the hit in the video below.

Bogaerts has amassed a preposterous 45 hits over the course of the 26-game streak, including five home runs and eight doubles to go along with 20 RBI. He has batted .385 over the course of the streak and continues to lead the American League in batting average at .348.

It's too bad that the Red Sox pitching staff can't keep up with what Bogaerts is doing, along with the rest of the Red Sox's absurdly prolific offense. But as long as Bogaerts continues to hit the ball all over the field and provide plus defense at short, he will give the Red Sox a nightly chance to win and continue to emerge as an MVP candidate.
