Wynn Gives Proposed Everett Casino Design A Facelift

BOSTON (CBS/AP) — Steve Wynn is pumping up his planned resort casino for the Boston-area.

The Boston Globe reports that the casino mogul has scrapped a proposed hotel tower panned by state gambling regulators in favor of a gently curving bronze structure resembling his signature hotels in Las Vegas -- Wynn and Encore. Wynn also wants to add more hotel rooms to the Everett waterfront project, possibly add a showroom for live entertainment and spend close to $1.75 billion.

The redesign was required by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission in order to receive the Region A Gaming license, according to former Ward Six Everett City Councilor Michael J. McLaughlin.

The Wynn Resorts project, which bested a rival Mohegan Sun plan in Revere for the lucrative Boston-area casino license, had been estimated to cost $1.6 billion. Regulators have also licensed an MGM casino in the western Massachusetts city of Springfield and a Penn National Gaming slots parlor in the southeastern town of Plainville.
