Workman's Suspension Upheld, Will Miss Friday Start In Oakland
BOSTON (CBS) -- Brandon Workman's six-game suspension has been upheld, and the Red Sox right-hander began serving his ban on Wednesday.
Workman was suspended following a May 30 altercation with the Tampa Bay Rays, when he threw at Rays' third baseman Evan Longoria. This came after Rays started David Price plunked a pair of Red Sox earlier in the contest.
Workman appealed his ban, but received word from Major League Baseball on Wednesday that it was upheld.

Workman, who is 1-0 with a 2.88 ERA and 28 strikeouts in eight appearances (five starts), was scheduled to pitch Friday against the Oakland Athletics but will now miss that start. The Red Sox have not yet announced who will take Workman's turn in the rotation.
