Workers Trapped After Wall Collapses At Wollaston Theatre

QUINCY (CBS) -- Two demolition workers were injured after a 15-foot brick and steel wall collapsed at the Wollaston Theatre.

Demolition crews were knocking down the 90-year-old landmark when the wall collapsed Tuesday afternoon, trapping one worker on the ground.  Another worker injured his arm after jumping from the cherry picker.

The man below was trapped under 4 feet of brick and steel and a beam. Firefighters say the beam likely saved his life.

"He was probably buried four feet," Quincy Fire Captain Jim Kennedy said. "He was basically covered from his torso and below. And it was good old fashioned man power. We dug him out brick by brick."

The owner of the construction company says the workers are recovering from their injuries and that "all proper construction procedures were followed."
