Worker Dies In Fall Down Elevator Shaft Of Downtown Boston Building

BOSTON (CBS) – A worker died after falling down an elevator shaft in a downtown Boston building Friday morning.

The incident occurred just after 10 a.m. in the Park Square Building at 31 St. James Ave., where the worker fell 30 feet down the freight elevator shaft.

Fire Department spokesman Steve MacDonald said the man was unresponsive when first responders arrived, and rescuers were working Friday afternoon to remove his body after a police investigation.

Jake Wark, a spokesman for the Suffolk district attorney, said the man was pronounced dead.

He said no foul play appears to be involved but the death is being investigated.

The victim's name has not been released.

OSHA was notified of the accident and is looking into it.

No other details are available at this point in the investigation.
