Police Searching For Plow Truck After Man Hit, Killed In Worcester

WORCESTER (CBS) -- Police said a 72-year-old man was left dying in the snow after a plow truck struck him while he was walking during the storm Monday morning.

The man, identified Monday afternoon as Tu Nghiem of Worcester, was hit on Pleasant Street around 6 a.m. Nghiem was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said witnesses told them the victim was walking in the eastbound lane when a dark-colored pickup truck with a plow hooked on the front struck him.

Witnesses rushed to help Nghiem, while some called police.

They said he immediately fell, and that the the truck did not stop, continuing on toward the town of Paxton.

Neighbors told WBZ-TV's Christina Hager the spot on the heavily-travelled street was a dangerous spot to walk.

"The traffic goes 45, 50, and so if someone was trying to walk over there, that's very dangerous," said neighbor Joseph Cosgrove.

There is a sidewalk, but it had not been cleared of snow from the overnight storm at the time of the crash.

"Not a good place to be walking at all in the aftermath of a storm like this," said neighbor Joanne Dunleavy.

One man who was driving a truck that fit the description of the suspect vehicle returned to the scene, and allowed police to tow his truck and get a better look at it--but police determined he was not involved.

Worcester Police said they don't have any suspects at this time, and are asking the public to contact them with any information.
