Worcester Man Charged With Shooting Friend In Head Held Without Bail

WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — A 21-year old Worcester man charged with shooting his 15-year-old friend through the head and blinding him has been ordered held without bail.

Gary Goyette was held pending a hearing to determine whether he's a danger to society after pleading not guilty Wednesday in Worcester Superior Court to charges including attempted murder stemming from the June 30 shooting. The dangerousness hearing is Monday.

Goyette has been held since his district court arraignment in July.

Prosecutors say Goyette went to the teen's home, talked to him on the porch for a couple of minutes before opening fire. Police say the bullet went through the teen's head.

The Telegram & Gazette (http://bit.ly/1U4lzKw ) reports Goyette's lawyer said the shooting was accidental, because there was no apparent motive and no animosity between the two.
