Worcester Driver Who Ran Over Young Boy's Legs Identified

WORCESTER (CBS) – Police have identified the driver accused of hitting a 3-year-old boy Sunday night in Worcester and driving away.

Detectives had been searching for the driver involved in the crash on Bellevue Street, which happened around 7:30 p.m.

Worcester Police say a family was having a cookout when a blue Mercury Marquis ran over the boy's legs.

The mother tried to stop the car, but the driver sped away.

The boy was treated and released from an area hospital.

On Monday night, the vehicle believed to have been involved in the crash was found on Tatman Street. Investigators impounded the vehicle.

Police identified the driver, but have not released their name.

The driver will be charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury accident. Further charges may be added.

Paperwork will be submitted to have the driver's license immediately revoked as an immediate public safety threat.
