No Bail For Driver Charged With Hitting Grandmother, Child With SUV

WORCESTER (CBS) -- A Worcester woman is facing multiple charges after the SUV she was driving struck a 5-year-old girl and the girl's grandmother while they walking on a sidewalk.

Prosecutors say Cassandra McAuliffe first went to her ex-boyfriend Derek Bonin's workplace Wednesday demanding money.

Bonin told reporters outside the courtroom she was chasing him in her car Wednesday afternoon. She turned onto Major Taylor Boulevard and lost control of her car, hitting 54-year-old Doris Arias and her granddaughter.

"I'm very angry with Cassandra, very angry with her," Bonin said.

Bonin called 911 to report the incident during the chase.

"I saw something that really traumatized me," Bonin said."It's tragic, I hope the grandmother and  daughter are ok."

The young girl is in good condition and is expected to be released from the hospital within days. Arias suffered several broken bones and is still in critical condition.

McAuliffe had a suspended license at the time and a long history with Worcester courts, including several prostitution and drug charges.

McAuliffe appeared in Worcester District Court Thursday. When the judge ordered her to stay away from Bonin she asked, "what about all my money?"

"Yeah, but he can punch me in the face and that's OK?" she then said.

McAuliffe is being held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing.
